L!sted – The Crystal Ship [Album]

Los Angeles producer (or producers, this Google-proof name trend has gotta be causing indigestion amongst writers everywhere) L!sted uploaded a free new album of fresh instrumentals to Bandcamp last week. Titled The Crystal Ship, it’s one of the more engrossing and original projects to come through in some time- a dreamy, soft-focus blur of meticulous, lovingly programmed drums, Burial-esque effected vocal samples, dreamy pads and shimmering synths.

While most instrumental producers lean in one direction or another when it comes to letting their influences show, The Crystal Ship clearly takes cues from varied material, blending two parts Boards Of Canada to one part Madlib, garnished with liberal quantities of ambient noise and just the right amount of heavy bass, blending it all into a hazy, engrossing project sure to delight both experimental hip-hop heads and discerning electronic downtempo fans.
