Multi-talented L.A.lien Low Leaf has gone through a lot of phases since we got hipped to her sounds. With 2011′s Chrysalis EP, she hopped on our radar thanks to a Flying Lotus tweet and some glitched-out beats. Then, she embraced a Brainfeeder-influenced M.I.A. vibe earlier this year with the GiGA GAiA EP.
And now with Alchemixing Dawn, Low Leaf seems to have found a middle ground amid all the noise, hyper rhythms, and big-time beats. The EP also shows off yet another facet of her skill set: strings and vocals-driven songwriting. Throughout its seven tracks, she takes you on a freak folk-meets-galactic beats journey. The emphasis is on the former, though, and leads me to believe she’ll only gain more fans with this pay-what-you-want release.
