Sometimes, tracks just hit you at the right time. In this case, it’s the second single off L’Orange and Stik Figa‘s upcoming album The City Under The City, which drops Oct. 15 on Mello Music Group. Across “Monochrome”, Stik’s rhymes are sharp and relentlessly on-point while serving as a meditative complement to L’Orange’s soulful, sample-driven instrumental. It all hits hardest when you hear the line, “We all got secrets that we keep ’til we ash.” That mindset of keeping some things to yourself, even as the casket drops, feels potent and almost sage-like. Perhaps we shouldn’t bottle those thoughts up and instead free them, consequences be damned.
