Little Dragon Speak On Failed Big Boi Collaboration “Mama Told Me”

Earlier this week, Big Boi revealed his latest single, “Mama Told Me“, that surprisingly featured a hook from the rather-bland Kelly Rowland. Why was it surprising? Well, because we already saw footage of the Outkast MC performing the track with Little Dragon. That, of course, led us to believe they would be collaborating on the final studio version, though that was obviously not the case.

“So what the hell happened?” you might be asking. Well, it turns out that they couldn’t reach an agreement in time to have the Swedish synth-pop outfit on the Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors single. Sigh. Read the full statement from Little Dragon below. [via]

It is true that Little Dragon made the “Mama Told Me” track with Big Boi and even performed it live in Austin for The Fader. The whole collaboration was an amazing creative experience. Unfortunately, business terms out of our control got in the way, and an agreement couldn’t be reached in time for our version of the track to be released. At least new friendships were made, and we want to wish Big Boi good luck with the album. We look forward to collaborating with him in the future.

Was thinking the same thing about KR vs LD version.

I can see that, but I just want LD to get that money/recognition instead of KR.

I’ll be perfectly honest, no love for Kelly Rowland, but I like her version better than the one with Little Dragon. Say what you want, the live version sounded corny. I don’t go in for that cutesy faux-indie crossover garbage. Hopefully Little Dragon will get the writing credit (assuming they wrote their part) on the record, at least.

Lulz. Her single with Lil Wayne got so much radio play last year I damn near offed myself.

Precisely why I chose not to listen to it voluntarily. I forgot she still had a career.
