For an artist currently residing in a town titled “Starkville”, Pell’s future looks awfully fruitful. In his latest project – the aptly titled Floating While Dreaming – a river of emotions as grand as the Mississippi twists and turns, carving a winding path through the wholesome, healthy heart of its 13 tracks. Pell projects his true-to-self identity through multiple iterations of rap and melody, sparing no details as he splits his mind and divergently sails North to his future, South to his past.
The still-developing multi-talent occasionally treads through unstable territory, spreading himself thin over the course of Dreaming‘s 53 minutes – lackluster ballads included. And yet, even the project’s rare low points pulse forward thanks to the oceanic depth of the oft-melancholic production.
Pell’s openness and charismatic ability to capture the quirks of everyday situations promise impact and longevity; enjoy Floating While Dreaming and enter a lengthy trance under Pell’s spell – things are only going up from here.
