Just in time for Valentines day Pharoahe Monch has released a new project titled Lost In Translation. The project is a collection of previously released songs from his solo albums as well as features from 2000 to 2015, with love and relationships being the consistent theme here. Pharoahe remarked on Twitter that; “Lost In Translation is a retrospective of songs about the pursuit of love, love lost & regained & it’s beautiful emotional journey,”
The guest appearances and on the project include; Justin Timberlake, Jill Scott, Eric Roberson, Denaun Porter, Brandon Williams, Sergio Mendes, Will.I.Am, Robert Glasper, Sa-Ra, and Mela Machinko. Lost In Translation also features one new song titled “Home (We Got This)” featuring Phonte’ and Tamisha.
It’s great to see the Denaun Porter and Monch collaboration “Broken Heart” finally end up somewhere, the same goes for the previously hard to find “Glorious” with Sa-Ra. “Home (We Got This)” is really good, kinda surprised Monch didn’t keep this for an album.
Pharoahe Monch sat down with Okayplayer to speak at length about the mix’s greatest moment.
”Loose Ends,” the compilation’s epic finale, is a revitalized take on classic Sergio Mendez material featuring not only Monch but Justin Timberlake and Will.I.Am. The track only became fully realized after Monch flew out to LA to hear a new project at Will’s request, who had been hinting that he might want to hear the MC lend his talents to a particular latin-tinged track. “I said ‘Stop! I’m already writing to the record,’” Monch recalled, and in a matter of no time “Loose Ends” was complete.
