One of the hardest things for any musician, it would seem, is letting another artist into their world. Creating a body of work can be a deeply personal affair, especially for someone like Emay who raps and produces his own records. That’s why the Sinner, Song-Writer EP is a nice chance of pace. It sees Emay collaborating with producers like Star Slinger on the trippy “Who Am I” and Giraffage on the ethereal “Mair.”
The project as a whole is brought together by Emay’s down-to-earth lyrics and mellow delivery. The early standout, besides “Who Am I,” is the Hollow Pigeons-produced “Solitude.” The word relatable gets thrown around a lot in the blogosphere, but Emay truly embodies real-world problems through his lyrics. It’s nice to hear a rapper spit about lack of job security and doubters trying to make him take a more traditional path. If you’re interested, you can listen to the project below.
