There have been plenty of times over the past few months when I’ve started listening to a new artist and felt compelled to share his or her work with y’all, only to realize said work might not fit in with what we usually post. Chicago rapper Lil Bibby is a perfect example of that. I’ve been following his career since I caught one of his collaborations with Lil Herb over the summer—I can’t remember which one it was, sorry—and their passionate, confident flows intrigued me. But for whatever reason, I wasn’t confident in my own taste to big-up their work here on Potholes.
Well, that changes now.
Bibby just released a new solo single, “Water”, and it’s absolutely fantastic. It’s produced by Black Metaphor, who laces the Windy City rapper with a soul-sampling instrumental straight out of the early 2000s. And Bibby knows exactly how to handle it, flowing with conviction about staying on his hustle. I hope you dig it as much as I do.
