Kokayi – “Summery” f. Substantial & Tamara Wellons

On the real, Kokayi’s Robots & Dinosaurs was one of my favorite albums of 2010. Few artists can pull from so many different genres and make a record that still sounds that cohesive and, honestly, goddamn brilliant. And while he’s busy prepping a remix EP based on that album, the rapper-singer-producer has offered a track suited for the weather we’re about to enjoy in a month or so. That’s right: summer time, no Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff. Actually, no, I take that back because apparently Kokayi was motivated to record “Summery” after hearing the duo’s classic BBQ jam. It previously only appeared on the vinyl release of Robots & Dinosaurs, but Kokayi’s awesome and has given it away for free.99. We love you, too.
