Kokayi Discusses Meaning Behind Robots & Dinosaurs

If you have heard the excellent genre-bending cobb salad that is Robots and Dinosaurs, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Kokayi is an extremely articulate guy when discussing the vision behind his music. Only someone with a vision–whether or not he was sure how to define it at the time he was doing it or not–could keep together such a stylistically eclectic record while managing to maintain some sense of cohesion. “RoxTar” is perhaps the best example of R&D‘s harnessed style melange, with its nod to shoegazers Jesus and Mary Chain and whaling Slashian guitar solo in the bridge over a ?uestlove-esque drum track. So its appropriate that in this short interview that precedes “RoxTar”‘s  video premiere next week, Koyaki discusses exactly how the phrase “Robots and Dinosaurs” works as a metaphor for understanding what musical lineages make his music tick.
