What do you get when you mix the Duncan Jones-directed Moon with Planet of the Apes and some UK electro-hop? Answer: the music video for “Kidkanevil’s “Yokai”, of course! The pleasant thing about artists like Kidkanevil is that they rarely fall into a musical rut, because they are never content to let themselves be limited by genres or tags. His latest effort, Basho Basho, had a quirky mix of glitchy J-pop, 8-bit beats, and euphoric ambience. “Yokai” falls somewhere in the the 8-bit category, but with plenty of catchy melody to boot.
