Kid Cudi Announces Departure From G.O.O.D. Music

kid-cudi-backIn a recent interview, Kid Cudi revealed that he would be parting ways with G.O.O.D. Music. Contrary to my initial belief, there appear to be no hard feelings. Apparently Kanye and Cudi had a talk and decided it was mutually beneficial if they parted way. Continuously losing faith in G.O.O.D. Music myself, I can’t help but feel like this was the right move for the Kid. [via]

Read some quotes from the interview below, and stream the audio at the bottom of the post. Indicud drops April 23.

“Man, everything is cool. Everything is peace with everyone on the label, but I’m announcing that I’m no longer on G.O.O.D. Music. And this is something that no one knows really. I’m no longer on G.O.O.D. Music.”

Me and Kanye were actually talking on the phone the other day, and there’s been things I wanted to talk to him about. About me wanting to start my own direction, and he got it because he’s trying to start his own new path, and trying new things as an artist. And he was just like ‘Man, I feel you. It’s cool.’ This is just from a business standpoint. There’s no beef with anyone on the label. It’s all love.”

“It’s not like some beef thing, it’s just business. I went through a process where I talked to Don C, and then I went to talk to Jay-Z. And then got their opinions about how to approach [Kanye] about things I wanted to talk to him about and everybody gave me the blessing on how I was approaching it and my concerns.”

I talked to Don C to get his opinion on how to approach Kanye. Then I hit up Jay to get his opinion on how to approach Kanye, because I never wanted to offend him and I didn’t know how he’d take it. And I was like ‘Man I do not want to make my brother mad,’ me and Kanye have never bumped heads, we’ve never argued, we’ve never been in heated conversations…ever. I really went out my way to make sure that what I was feeling was justified and it was ok for me to bring it to the table. And Hov reassured me, he was like ‘Yo man I hear it in your tone that it’s genuine and everything that you’re saying to me, how you’re saying it I know Kanye will be receptive to that. I know he’ll honor it’”

Big Sean and Cyhi Da Prrince are just terrible. Uninspired pop rap, no personality, same beats, same lyrics, same flow. They have some good songs but most of the time it’s just “meeeh….whatever man”. They are the definition of being unoriginal.
2Chainz is just shit. John Legend is a good guest singer (sometimes) but most of the time he is super boring. Pusha still hasn’t made anything good as a solo artist – a few good songs here and there but still no creativity in his music – same shit all over again, but with new “trendier” feats.. D’banj and Malik Yusef are like WTF was Kanye even thinking. I agree about Mos Def, Q-tip and Common…..but yeah, GOOD music is not the right place for them. Their albums are going to be corny. Imagine them rapping over Hit-Boy beats? hahahahaha
Kanye is one of the greatest producers but his music is just not that good anymore. The whole “i’m the king of the world” thing is retarded and it just doesn’t have the same replay value that his others releases used to have.
GOOD music makes good inspiring music for little kids tho.
As much as I hate Cudi’s arrogance, at least he was trying new things and had some originality (even when making pop rap songs). I can clearly see why he doesn’t want to work with these cheesy niggas anymore.

I hate Cudi as an artist and I’m so glad I don’t have to hear him on another G.O.O.D. Music release.

As far as G.O.O.D. Music goes, I don’t understand the complaints. Sure Cruel Summer wasn’t what we expected but it was still better than most other compilation albums (comparing to Young Money & Maybach Music). The organic hip hop fans hate anything new. But I bet if Kanye dropped a new song tomorrow everyone would be all over it. Forget about Travis Scott, Teyana Taylor, and 2 Chainz (whom I wholeheartedly enjoy) and you still have some top notch emcees on the roster. You can’t tell me Big Sean hasn’t proved himself in 2012. Pusha? Cyhi?
