The message of Key Nyata‘s new single, “Tha Garden”, is made incredibly clear once the hook hits. “Let a n***a motherfuckin’ smoke,” a slightly screwed and warped voice (presumably Nyata’s) repeats over the crushing, thunderous production. So yeah, this is another track in the so-called weed rap canon, but it’s far more aggressive than what we’re used to from blunted MCs. Maybe that’s because this Seattle rapper-producer has a grimy side to him. Or maybe it’s because he’s doing what he can to stand out from the pack. Whatever the case, it’s just another reason why he’s a hip-hop act you need to know.
