Trumpeter Kevin Louis recently teamed up with Portland’s FNMusicWeb to create his latest project, Music Is My Religion. Louis uses jazz as a vehicle on this album to explore the role of religion, mixing his lush instrumentation with spoken word and other vocal expression. Louis also employs Robert Glasper on keys, as well as some other notable musicians like Jason Brown, Dion Tucker and more. This powerful cocktail of modern jazz musicians are able to cook up something traditional yet expansive, exploring emotion and society with pure instrumentation. Spread throughout the album, spoken word pieces are also offered, allowing a number of people to speak on their personal experiences with religion.
