Keeping up with all the music being released on a daily basis ain’t easy, so it’s with that in mind that I ask for a bit of a break in getting to this new album from Kev Brown and Hassaan Mackey a bit “late.” Yes, it’s been out since Nov. 4, but so what? We haven’t written anything about That Grit yet and it just didn’t feel right. To be blunt, it’s a dope record that deserves more attention, if only because it gives you the chance to hear a new verse from Kenn Starr (who kills it on instant standout “Money Mike”). Also, I really just appreciate the fact that Kev included in the instrumentals as part of the project, not some “buy the album with vocals first and then maybe I’ll drop the instros.” Nah, this is some straight-up raw, gritty hip-hop—and you better be listenin’.
You can hear the album below and buy it here.
