Keor Meteor – Cornerstone Cashiers [Album]

When I think of France and its connection to hip-hop I immediately think of producer and rapper Lucien Revolucien and his appearance on A Tribe Called Quest’s first album, People’s Instinctive Travels and The Paths of Rhythm. A new name that will jump out at me immediately from now on is Keor Meteor, an artist from Paris who like Lucien makes beats.

Keor’s latest project and the first that I’ve personally come across is Cornerstone Cashiers. It’s an album of hip hop instrumentals the late Guru would likely nod his head to that are fittingly woven together with samples from what sounds like a jazz documentary. While it draws upon the styles found in a lot of ’90s hip hop these could also work in the present. I would definitely like to hear Sean Price threatening an imagined antagonist over “MacArthur Park”. The album is available on his Bandcamp page as well as a slew of his other releases from this year.
