We’re less than three months into the new year and 2015 is already infinitely more exciting for mainstream rap album releases, with albums from Lupe Fiasco, Ghostface Killah & BBNG, Drake, and Big Sean. Not to mention, we’ve received three more singles from Kanye West’s forthcoming seventh album. And now we’ve learned that Kendrick Lamar‘s follow-up to Good Kid, M.A.A.D City is set be released on March 23rd, thanks to the iTunes link he put out on twitter earlier today.
The iTunes pre-order link doesn’t include an album title, artwork, or track-listing outside of confirmation that his latest song “The Blacker The Berry” will be on the album. For all the secrecy associated with this untitled album, it is a little surprising Kendrick and his TDE team didn’t opt to release the album as a surprise versus a traditional release date. And then couple that with the fact he doesn’t currently have a radio single in rotation.
Nonetheless, knowing we’re getting a new album from Kendrick Lamar before the end of the month is definitely great news. His debut was released three years ago, and his career continues to ascend. Fresh off winning his first Grammy Award for his single “I”, and a Colbert Report appearance, it’ll be interesting to see what direction Kendrick Lamar takes us for his sophomore album. His untitled album is set to be released on March 23rd, you can pre-order it on iTunes now.
