Kelela first popped up on our radar for her feature on one of 2013’s sleeper hits “Bankhead,” but now she’s grabbed our full attention with her new mixtape Cut 4 Me. Released on Kingdom’s Fade To Mind label, it boasts a majority in house production from the likes of Bok Bok, Kingdom, Jam City, and Girl Unit. Considering how much of the label’s material feels indebted to R&B voices of the past, it makes perfect sense to bridge the gap between their influences and the icy-cold club productions they have been churning out for years. Simply put, this is one of the most forward thinking projects of the year and it’s damn good.
