Justin Vernon Talks About Calling It Quits With Bon Iver

Justin Vernon’s first two projects under Bon Iver were nothing short of stellar. But with anything special, especially in music, there comes a time where creative progression might be hindered by fame and high expectations. Something that Mr. Vernon is hinting at in a recent interview with a public radio station in Minnesota last night. [via]

Here is what Justin Vernon had to say on the issue:

“Winding it down. I look at it like a faucet. I have to turn it off and walk away from it because so much of how that music comes together is subconscious or discovering. There’s so much attention on the band, it can be distracting at times. I really feel the need to walk away from it while I still care about it. And then if I come back to it – if at all – I’ll feel better about it and be renewed or something to do that.”

Pretty terrible news, I know, but we are going to stay optimistic. After all, this sounds pretty hypothetical and we aren’t sure if the end of Bon Iver also means the end of Justin Vernon’s music career. Stay tuned as we wait for more on this development.
