Say what you want about Otis Redding (I don’t know how any of what you’d say wouldn’t just be gushing praise…), but that voice will fuck you all the way up. The man packed more raw, unchecked emotion into one word than some of today’s singers can get into a whole album. NYC producer Jinesis knows this. Otis only utters half a sentence on Jinesis’s latest production, “Maliah”, but it’s enough to make for a devastating beat. The track finds Jinesis serving the sample up over a stir fry of diced horns and low end synths. “Maliah” is the first offering from Otisis, an Otis Redding beat tape produced entirely by Jinesis and presented by our good friends The Mad Bloggers. Otisis is out June 14, which is shaping up to be a really good day for hip-hop. You’re gonna wanna grab that.
