It looks like Jay-Z’s recent “Open Letter” inspired Common to get a bit off his chest as well. Speaking on Cuba, Common urges some to raise awareness for Assata Shakur, a political activist who received political asylum in the country since 1984. Of course, Common first wrote about this topic on his Like Water for Chocolate song “A Song For Assata”.
