Otis Redding’s classic “Try A Little Tenderness” is the inspiration for the latest Watch The Throne single “Otis”. I love the sample chop on this new Kanye West & Jay-Z record I just wish the track had better drums. Maybe they lowered the drums to make us pay attention to the lyrics? If so, I can see that angle. The soul sample is vintage Kanye West circa College Dropout and overall “Otis” is infinitely better than the Lex Luger-produced “H.A.M.”, which dropped a little while back. The track listing and production credits were updated earlier this week. My only complaint is that Just Blaze isn’t producing anything on this project. While I’m still unsure what the album will sound like this sample is undeniable. Watch The Throne drops digitally on Aug. 1, while the physical CD hits stores Aug. 5. You can pre-order it here.
