In the latest effort from Aberdeen’s premier electronic label, bossman Lockah has procured a most excellent cut from one of the most promising young come ups stateside: Jaw Jam. After seeing his Untitled EP be released through Live for The Funk and releasing a series of thoroughly impressive bootlegs, the Oberlin-educated Will DiMaggio is strapping up The Truth EP, Tuff Wax’s twelfth release, as well as their first one to be put to vinyl.
The sound is everything you’d expect if you’ve been paying attention to the kid, but if you haven’t, expect perfectly chopped vocals laid over electronically infused jazz instrumentals, described as by Tuff Wax as “soft sine synth-work, unorthodox structures and elusive vocal samples that strike a balance between a deep reference to the club atmosphere and the producer’s engagement in jazz and improvisatory music”. Lockah and rising Aberdonian talent Yoin are contributing remixes for the project, making this EP one that you’ll definitely want to scoop up.
Stream “The Truth” below and stay tuned for the full EP, dropping May 6.
