Like Gedi wrote in his list of most anticipated albums of 2011, the genre “world music” kind of makes me grimace. And no, not that grimace. I always get the feeling that people use “world music” too loosely. Also, isn’t everything technically world music considering we all share the same planet? OK, I’m stepping down from the soapbox. Anyway, this new track from Jae Franklin finds her blending electric soul, jazz, and Afrobeat. And she handles it beautifully. I was a little skeptical at first — mostly because I searched her name and found that world music tag — but “Always Needed You” is just a gorgeous tune. It’s apparently off a forthcoming free album, too, so check back here March 1 for that if you dug this track.
