One of the more disappointing/frustrating projects of 2012 was the posthumously released J Dilla album, The Rebirth of Detroit. Everything about it felt haphazardly thrown together, and that remains a constant as we’re seeing a video for one of the album’s cuts. “Center of the Moment”, which features Pierre Anthony and group 5 ELA, is a low-budget affair that is almost hard to watch because of its amateur-ish visuals. I understand that everyone involved most likely has their hearts in the right place with this, but I can’t help but feel as if Dilla deserves more than this.
You can watch the video below.

This is dope!
Real Hip Hop is self sufficient. We shot this video out of love and to show the roots of where we come from. This is similar to how Detroit Hip Hop videos looked when we were growing up… THIS IS DETROIT! THIS IS THE CENTER OF THE MOVEMENT!

I think they wanted to do it justice, too, but it is just a really poorly done, Public Access-esque clip.
Nothing wrong with it, except you’d think they’d put more money behind it. It’s heart is in the right place.
part of me just died.
