Young NYC up-and-comers HxH (Rodney Hazard & Kareem Hawkins) continued their recent hot streak last week by uploading “Moonwalk” to Soundcloud. Featuring smooth, understated boom-bap production from Hawkins, Hazard uses his laid-back flow to spit a dual homage to the two MJ’s that shaped the dreams and ambitions of millions- Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson.
Raw and off-the-cuff, “Moonwalk” brings a casual, old-school vibe well-suited to toast a pair of Mikes who made things look easy. Not self-consciously experimental, “Moonwalk” skews more towards classic hip-hop than psychedelic space beats, which suits HxH just fine, as they’re clearly rather accomplished scholars of the game that can win it both ways.
