In October 2009, philosophy student Tom Krell began releasing ethereal soul music under the moniker “How to Dress Well” via his existential #LIFE blog. HTDW’s debut album Love Remains (Lefse Records, 2010) was well received and Krell was praised for his atypical approach to R&B music — which we would now akin to James Blake style future garage.
Krell’s latest EP Just Once will be released via Love Letters Ink (the offspring of music video blog yourstru.ly) and is dedicated to the memory of his dear friend Ryan Hutchon, who inspired many of the tracks from Love Remains. Featuring orchestral versions of four HTDW tracks, Just Once brings more of the minimalism, fragile vocals, and syncopated rhythms that HTDW fans love, and adds tasteful orchestral flourishes and modulations.
