Hot Sugar has steadily been climbing to the top of my producer list for the last couple years with a body of work soaked in dope, from his music to his videos to the musings on his Twitter feed. He has a habit of lacing weird rappers with weirder beats, his compositions made from recordings of anything you could fathom from the silence of a graveyard and the snap of a broken pencil, to birds at a pet shop and a drumkit set up in the filth under a New York bridge. Hot Sugar’s brand of strange is intriguing and utterly harmless, but he makes you wonder if all great artists really are insane. In a good way.
