I first heard Hiatus Kaiyote a few weeks ago through their song “Nakamarra”. That song is slowly becoming one of my favourite songs of 2012. The group hails from Melbourne, Australia and I would describe them sonically as a mix between Little Dragon and Erykah Badu. The lead singer/songwriter Nai Palm has an amazing voice and her band really compliments her to bring all those musical influences together.
I’m beginning to think there’s something in the water in that part of the world especially when you consider the acts we’ve been getting for soul/funk/alternative music; Electric Wire Hustle, Benny Tones, Lewis McCallum and Hollie Smith. The good folks at Wax Poetics have remixed their debut album, Tawk Tomahawk, which dropped earlier this year. Twelve producers reinterpreted Hiatus Kaiyote originals and the lineup includes Mark de Clive-Lowe, Shafiq Husayn, Anthony Valadez, and many more. [via]
