Hi-Tek – the legendary hip-hop producer behind Hi-Teknology, collaborative duo Reflection Eternal’s Revolutions Per Minute and some of the more memorable beats backing Mos Def & Talib Kweli’s Black Star project – has jumped back into the thick of things with his first release in a very, very long time; “Ohio Players” presents itself as a flurry storm of deep-tone, minor instrumentation and rapidly rapped rhymes courtesy of featured artists Bow Wow (head scratcher, even with him being born in Ohio), Krayzie Bone and Bootsy Collins.
The call-to-arms record rumbles and flexes with vintage glory, and it certainly has me back to consciously wishing for a new album from ‘Tek. The song’s grandiose, fiery sound bed pairs with high energy deliveries to make a rather proclamatory statement – the perfect presence signaling a rewardable return to the rap game.
