Yesterday (June 26), we reported that Will.I.Am is taking legal action against Pharrell Williams and his “i am OTHER” brand over the use of “I Am.” Well, it turns out that the legal action isn’t necessarily the lawsuit that some have assumed it to be. Instead, it’s being called “a run-of-the-mill trademark dispute that’s been going on since late last year,” Will’s attorney told The Guardian. Either way, we still think it’s interesting, if not foolhardy, to bring someone to court over two words that have been uttered since, well, language was created.
With that in mind, Potholes’ own Mallory Pickard took to the web to search for other uses of the phrase “I Am.” Then, maybe, Will.I.Am can be caught up in trademark disputes with these 20 other musicians, Facebook groups, and the almighty instead of recording new music.
