Handbook & Cypria – “Sunrise”

UK beat maestro Handbook dropped a new track over the weekend, a reflective, atmospheric collaboration with fellow Brit Cypria. “Sunrise” is a spacious, dignified piece coupling some decidedly minimalist drum programming with gently loping acoustic guitar work and an atmospheric flute sample that wouldn’t be out of place at your Tai Chi class. If laid-back beat work is your thing (and let’s be real, of course it is) “Sunrise” definitely does work on your Chi, suavely integrating a little boom-bap into that relaxing, Eastern palette. This one may not get the dance floor much traffic, but “Sunrise” plays oh-so-nicely in a comfortable, dimly lit room- the guitars and flute create an ambient haze, and that ton-of-bricks kick drum keeps your head nodding.

nice, smooth and flowing, the kinda thing I dig when I’m on my front porch around 4:30 in the afternoon. reminds me slightly of Jean-michel Jarre’s “Oxygene 2”, which is no bad thing 🙂
