This kid GRANT makes beats that sound inspired by a trip to the grocery store. Almost every cut on Beat Tape Vol. 1, which compiles 11 instrumentals from his vaults, sounds inspired by yacht rock and smooth jazz. Typically, I hear that kind of music and want to rip my ears off. But GRANT? He turns the tunes into woozy, hazy, and textured pieces of boom-bap. Good for you, dude, because maybe next time I won’t slam my head into a wall at Harris Teeter.
