Flip Recipe Records is a new label out of Manchester, U.K. that was founded by Sourface, a producer we’ve written about quite a lot over the years who appeared on our Robot Soup project. You know, I was just thinking about how it had been a minute since I last heard from him and, sure enough, he’s clearly been keeping busy with this label business. The roster consists of Beatowski, Riddle, Tallen, and (of course) Sourface himself, who I reached out to for a quote on why he decided to start the label:
I wanted to start a label because it means I can take the next step up from being a fan of hip hop, or beatmaker. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.
I was posting unsigned material I was a fan of on Youtube via the snaresallday account, and it made me realise I wanted to do more than simply be a fan of it.
With the label (and its awesome name) officially launched as of this past June 11, they’re hitting the ground with firm footing in Beatowski‘s Hand Crafted. The 10-track beat tape just might leave your neck sore if you’re not careful, because the drums bring that irresistible nod-your-head knock. The sample flips are likely to give you that “oh damn” snarl, too, so be careful where you end up listening to this. Oh, and as a bonus, the project comes with a pay-what-you-want price tag, meaning you can get it for free if you’re hurtin’ for funds.
