Funky DL – Funky DL’s Remix Deluxe [Album]

Over the past few years, we’ve truly come to appreciate Funky DL’s production talents. The London-based artist might have first caught our attention for his sharp wit and deft rhymes, but it’s his sample chopping that has really dominated his latest projects. Like those Amy Winehouse tribute projects, for example, that found him rapping over diced Frank and Back To Black samples.

And on his newest release — Funky DL’s Remix Deluxe — the Brit stays completely behind the boards as he reworks some of his favorite rap joints from the past two decades. This includes everything from Nas’ “Virgo” to Jeru the Damaja’s “Ya’ Playin’ Yaself” to the Notorious B.I.G.’s “Ten Crack Commandments”. All of them receive a fresh backdrop filled with smoky jazz samples and plenty of boom-bap. Check it out below.
