Freddie Gibbs has been blowing up on the underground mixtape scene since early 2009. He was previously signed to Interscope then later released. Freddie was featured on XXL’s 2010 Freshman class earlier this year. Hailing from Gary, Indiana he’s been making some good music with his mixtapes, an effort to show that gangsta rap is still relevant. While I’m not big on labels in hip-hop [backpack, gangsta rap, etc.] I’m definitely a fan of good lyricism and storytelling. “The Ghetto” embodies both to the fullest. You may recognize the beat from the classic 7 minute freestyle by Big L and Jay-Z on the Milkbone instrumental for “Keep It Real”. This is the latest leak from his upcoming mixtape Str8 Killa No Filla. Peep the video and let us know what you think.

He sounds nice on this one. But it’s just only because it’s 90s beat of Miilkbone – Keep it real. Anyone has any idea, how da f he got license for this beat? or he just broke the copyright of Miilkbone’s track?
Even though this joint’s been out for a lil’ while now, I’m glad we’re giving it some shine. Freddie Gibbs is one of the newcomers I truly enjoy.
