i didn't read all of that, honestly, but this album is not a 5 of 5. its def too long and the skits while adding meaning to the narrative of the album, actually disjoint the listen. again, i think a lot of the critical love this album receives is due to R&B being in such a bad place in the eyes of critics who don't have a real relationship to R&B. but really if you grew up in a house hold that played marvin, stevie, al, prince. if you grew up around urban radio in the 80s/90s Guy, Aaron Hall, early Kellz, Jodeci, TLC, Black Street, if you marveled at the neo-soulsters D, B, Erykah and Jill you'd under stand what Ocean is great at is synthesizing the best elements of the genre over the past 30 years and having a MIGHTY pen game; and on this album i believe a lot of that is due to the hand/guidance of Om'Mas (Sa-Ra) who co-produced half the songs. i.e. he's a grown ass Black man in debt to the archeology soul music and Frankie reaped the benefits of it. channel ORANGE is very good, not great and i wish folks gave Sonnymoon, Hawthorne Headhunters, THEESatisfaction, Muhsinah and Ragen Fykes half the chance they gave Ocean

I think he did an excellent job. From the cover to the array of sounds he used. I dont think its necessary to compare him to Erykah,D'angelo or Lauryn.I think they all have something to offer that is wonderful and unique. Thats the beauty of art it's all subjective.
