Four Weeks Later, I’m Still Processing Soundset

Sway

On Friday morning, SiriusXM’s Sway In The Morning was broadcasting live in Minneapolis, Minnesota at Rhymesayer’s official record store, Fifth Element. Sway along with his team (including the awesome Heather B) were on site interviewing local-based artists like Brother Ali, Prof, Slug, Lizzo, P.O.S. and let those emcees, along with the others, spit verses (written or off the top) live on-air.

While it seemed like every rapper from the Twin Cities came through and ripped the mic, there were a few standouts such as Slug, Metasota, MaLLy, Toki Wright, Lizzo and more. See for yourself and check out the footage below from Sway In The Morning.

After some of the formal festivities concluded, a few of us (such as MaLLy and Sway) assembled outside Fifth Element and discussed in depth about the do-it-yourself attitude championed by Rhymesayers, how it relates to and our opinion on the now legendary and hilarious footage of Kanye West (not the Atmosphere single) ranting at Calloway.

It’s only Friday morning and I can already sense this will be a great weekend for any hip hop fan in the Twin Cities.

I thought Chance was extremely disappointing because I thought his band sounded like shit. I was in front of the other stage when he performed, but that didn’t have a negative effect on any of the other performances.
