The duo FISHING returns with another installment of Hookz, Hookz 4: Lophiiforme, with another interesting collage cover composed of maritime themes. “Moon Deer” is quite the opener, a mixture of what sounds like bits of a disco song and their standard style of electronic beats that makes me picture the champagne colored cubes that played the back in Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” video.
But the project has more than that. On “TLC” they sample, you guessed it, TLC. They manipulate the trio’s ’95 hit, “Waterfalls”, keeping the memorable Organized Noize horn stabs and then toss some “No Scrubs” samples into the mix, beacuse why not? They cap off the EP with “Who Sez (Selena Gomez)” which indeed samples Justin Bieber’s girlfriend in a way that doesn’t create flashbacks for me of hours in a car with younger sibling’s listening to the Disney star’s music.
