A couple weeks after releasing what appears to be his first-ever track, “Punch Struck” via the Urban Outfitters blog, First Person Shootr is giving us another look at his forthcoming (via Lefse Records) cassette EP with “You New Web.” First Person Shootr mastermind Fred Warmsley melds a manipulated Rhodes loop, some glitchy percussion and a whole lot of ambient hiss and white noise with a reverb-drenched croon that vaguely recalls Jim James of My Morning Jacket. The net result is some truly experimental chillwave, blurring and fraying the edges of a genre that’s been reluctant to get truly weird, with elements of R & B and a healthy reverence for Brian Eno mixed in to further spice things up.
