I have been waiting for a new album from Kenn Starr for what honestly feels like forever. Actually, 2006 to be exact, as that’s when he dropped his friggin’ great debut, Starr Status, and had underground hip-hop heads fiending for more. I know this because the OkayPlayer message boards turned me on to the project with rave reviews, which were proven true as soon as I picked up a copy of the record. And since 2010, we’ve been hearing rumors of his followup album, Square One, but with very little information in terms of producers, release dates, features, etc.
That all changes today. Indie rap powerhouse Mello Music Group just revealed that they’re releasing Square One through a quick video that contains a clip of a new song (sounds awesome) and the news that Black Milk and Kev Brown, among others, provided production. As for when we’ll hear it, all we know is that it’s “coming soon,” and I hope that means before the end of the year.
