Given how much music drops on the daily, it’s easy to overlook some stuff based on preconceived notions and previous feelings alone. So had it not been forĀ Passion of the Weiss and their great post on this new Fat Joe track, I probably wouldn’t have heard it. I’m not a hater or anything like that, and I’m well aware that dude can spit when he wants to, but it just seems like he’s been rapping on cruise control for the most part. But every so often, he drops a lil’ jewel like “Your Honor”.
Aside from some current cultural references, the track sounds like it was sitting on some old Compaq computer from the mid-’90s. You know, when most of us knew dude as Joey Crack and beats by DJ Premier were cherished by everyone and not just hip-hop heads. But things have changed, for better or for worse, and most people probably won’t give “Your Honor” the time of day. That’s a shame, because Joey slays it, guest Action Bronson sounds great rapping about being stuck in the Matrix, and Premo’s beat is the type of instrumental that makes you want to rob your own family.
You can stream/download the track below. When does Fat Joe get out of the clink again?

No doubt, sir! Too funny that it’s a connection of people finding out about this. Totally Joe’s fault for that, though.
Thanks for the shout, Andrew. I totally would have missed it too if not for Zilla Rocca. Listening to Fat Joe songs for fun in 2013 is a dicey proposition.
