The Newport Folk Festival has ascended to one of the country’s premier music festivals, and for good reason. In a beautiful setting, where even the cheap seats provide a picturesque view, guests are treated to a long line-up of tastefully curated acts. The vibe rarely deviates from uniformly positive. Though “folk” is in the festival’s name, for years event organizers have been stretching the definitions of the term. Currently, the line-up is a thoughtful selection of traditionalists in the true folk tradition, a handful of divergent talents, and—best of all—acts that combine elements of both.
