Of all the tracks to remix on Erykah Badu‘s New Amerykah Part One (Fourth World War), Freddie Joachim has chosen what might be the most moving. Yes, I’m talking about her tribute to the late J Dilla, “Telephone”, which is one of those cuts you put on just to see how long you can go before your lower lip starts trembling. Joachim has removed that quality from the track, though, and has instead made it into a dreamy, head-nodding affair. It’s still somewhat haunting, but it won’t make you reach for a tissue.
