Somehow, someway, this track from Eric Lau and Guilty Simpson slipped under the radar when it dropped in like 2007. How the hell did “For the D” remain incognito for so goddamn long?! But I digress. The track — a tribute to the Motor City — is equally gritty and pensive. Following a sampled intro from J Dilla, Lau’s beat attacks your speakers with an understated punch while Guilty spits bars reflecting on his hometown. He also uses his gruff baritone to pay homage to his fallen comrades, particularly Proof and Dilla. It’s a moving, albeit bangin’, joint from two of my favorites. Get familiar.
Hit the skip to stream “For the D”. It’s part of a producer compilation that’s available on iTunes.

Right? I need that whole compilation.
Dope.
