I know — we’re having trouble remaining patient for the May 10 release of Elzhi’s ELmatic mixtape, too. The waiting would have been difficult enough if it was just another project from the Detroit spitter. But as the mixtape’s name implies, it’s his freakin’ tribute to Nas’s Illmatic, one of hip-hop’s most revered works. If anyone can “mass hysteria in ya’ area” like Nas, though, it’s absolutely Elzhi. Don’t believe me? Well then, you need to check out this video for his version of “Halftime”, which features a live band, Will Sessions, reinterpreting Large Professor’s beat.
