Los Angeles producer Egadz’s new single, “Giant Steps” (no John Coltrane), starts out with what sounds like a madman frantically playing his keyboard. And then it begins to loop and percussive elements work their way into the mix. Those elements then make way for cinematic synthesizers and drums upon drums upon drums. And all the while, the keys just keep on moving beneath it all, swirling into a frenzy amid crashing cymbals and deep kicks before it all ends abruptly. It feels like a massive tease, but it’s all so invigorating that you can’t stop listening. At least, I couldn’t.
