Last week marked the release of Earl Sweatshirt‘s much anticipated debut, Doris, that left some listeners wanting more while others were plenty satisfied. You can count me in the latter group but a personal defense of Doris this is not. Instead, we’re getting a look at the first-week sales for the album. The kid sold 49,000 copies of the album in its first week, which landed him at the number five spot on the Billboard 200 and number one (!) on the hip-hop chart. I’m somewhat surprised he didn’t sell more, though maybe he would have done better if there wasn’t such a gap between the album’s release and singles like “Chum” and “Whoa”.
For reference, Tyler, the Creator‘s third full-length album, this year’s Wolf, moved around 90,000 copies in its first week.

I think it’s pretty dope considering that he gets no radioplay
49,000 is a bit weak considering. But the buzz behind Earl has died down since a year or two ago. I enjoyed the LP
