Earl Sweatshirt Speaks On Possible Plans For The Future

earl-sweatshirt-cigThe L.A. Times just published a pretty damn great read on Earl Sweatshirt, his upcoming album Doris, and everything that’s led him up to the record’s Aug. 20 release date. And at the end, there’s a revealing piece of information both about Doris and the 19-year-old rapper. In particular, he reveals that he doesn’t really know what the future holds, because he never thought he would be making beats when he started rapping several years back. But he is. So what’s next?

“I don’t know what they are, but I know this isn’t it. I mean, I might go into real estate, I don’t know. Maybe acting. It seems like that would be fun. I don’t want to close any doors on myself — but I want to get really good at music.”

Additionally, there’s this very compelling comment from his manager Leila Steinberg, who you might recognize as the woman who managed 2Pac before his murder:

“He made his own record. He wouldn’t listen to anybody. And there were songs — I’m just going to say this, and he’s probably going to get mad at me — that could have been top hits on the charts that he recorded but he chose not to put them on the record. He wants to grow into his voice.”

You can read the rest of the piece at the L.A. Times. You can pre-order Doris at Amazon.
