When I think of French hip-hop, celestial tracks by acts like DJ Cam and Onra tend to start playing in my head. They’re usually on the dreamier, swoon-inducing side, too, without much of a penchant for grit and grime. So you can imagine my surprise upon hearing the work of Montpellier, France’s Dropout Marsh, a dude who can make heavenly cuts but isn’t afraid to get ’em dirty. His Titane Kevlar Pelican EP is equal parts ethereal and scuzzy, like an orchestra playing on instruments covered in dust and mud. It’s also free so you should stop snoozin’ and start listenin’.
